Students interested in serving in a developing country can now pursue training specifically geared towards those unique realities. As part of the ICD concentration, students spend 16 weeks at the H.E.A.R.T. Institute in Lake Wales, Florida as well as participate in one of the available EDGE sites. The H.E.A.R.T. program provides students with practical, hands-on training for life in developing countries as well as solid knowledge and spiritual challenge. Students not only learn how to dig wells, raise and slaughter goats and rabbits, grow food in a difficult area, utilize solar power, provide primary health care, fix simple engines, and many more things—they also learn how to teach people how to accomplish these same tasks. There is also a 3 week program available two times a year, so anyone can participate in this valuable training either during a winter or summer session.
