Circulation Policy

Borrowing privileges at the Grace University Library are extended to all current students, faculty, staff, and their families. Alumni of the university, students and staff from other Nebraska colleges and universities with which we have reciprocal borrowing agreements and citizens of the Omaha area may also obtain a library card.

Any library user not currently affiliated with Grace University is required to provide proof of identification showing their current home address. Students of other colleges should also show their current college identification cards.

University alumni, current students and staff from other Nebraska colleges and universities, and pastors and staff from local churches are not charged for obtaining a library card. A small annual fee of $10.00 is charged to others who want to have borrowing privileges at the Grace Library.

PLEASE DO NOT RESHELVE LIBRARY MATERIALS.  Library staff need to mark them as used in order to track usage of all library materials.

Books:

  1. Books are loaned for 28 days. Books may be renewed up to three times unless there has been a request for the material from another person.
  2. Reserve books are generally loaned out for two-hour periods for use in the library. Some reserve books may be checked out over night. Reserve materials having a longer loan period have labels showing how long they may be borrowed.
  3. Generally, reference books may not be checked out. In rare cases, the library director may authorize reference books to be taken by a professor for use in class.
  4. Faculty may borrow books for one entire semester.

Audiovisual Materials:

    1. VHS and DVD (except ones on reserve) may be borrowed for 14 days. These may be renewed at the discretion of the staff.
    2. Audiocassettes and kits may be borrowed for 14 days. (Some instructional audiocassettes may be borrowed for 28 days.) These cassettes may be renewed, unless there has been a request for the material from another person.
    3. Reserve videos are generally loaned out for three days, if not marked two-hour reserve in the library.

Audiovisual Equipment:

  1. The use of the VCR and DVD player for classroom use is reserved by contacting the library.
  2. Some audiovisual equipment may be borrowed for presentations for up to seven days.

Damage or Loss of Materials:

If materials are damaged, the Library Director will determine appropriate charges. Any materials, which are lost, destroyed, or not returned, will be charged for the replacement cost of the item and a processing fee of $15.00.

PLEASE DO NOT MARK IN LIBRARY BOOKS.  Library materials may be used by many other people.  People who mark in library books or periodicals will be fined.

Fines and Fees:

  1. There will be a 2-day grace period. After the grace period, a fine of $.10/day will be assessed for each day when the library is open. There will be a maximum of $10.00 fine on any overdue item.
  2. Borrowing privileges for library users having materials overdue for more than 28 days will be revoked until overdue items are returned, and fines totaling more than $5.00 are paid.
  3. For reserve materials, a fine of $1.00/day will be assessed
